You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

Those eyes look so familiar, but no clue. Nice photo, though! I love the values of it, the interplay of the highlights and soft shadows

I'm really lousy at this.

I'm not great at it either! There's a clue in my description, though.

I'm stumped. The clue immediately made me think of the film Why Be Good? with Colleen Moore, but this definitely isn't Colleen. Is this Lya de Putti before she became a vamp?

The eyes have it! I think it is Mrs. Florence Ziegfeld Jr., Glinda, The Good Witch of The North herself..... Billie Burke.

You just know way more about the silents than I do, so you looked too deep.

Yes! Dang it. I knew I'd seen that face before, and—to show you how bad I am—I think I've posted another early photo of her somewhere.  Anyway, good identifying there, Mrs. D.

Alrighty :db: I'll go find somebody to guess. This is getting harder, but I do remember NOT to get Alfred Hitchcock.

She is from Germany and starred in stage and film in her homeland before she came with her director to Hollywood and they worked together on innumerable successful films. Good luck. This picture is from 1918.

The Germany clue makes me think Marlene Dietrich.
