That song is Sailing, Sailing. It's normally the chorus of it that we hear. Thanks for asking the question—I learned something new.

Vitaphone Vaudevilles
Re: Vitaphone Vaudevilles
Again, I'll not embed this, as to only have vaudeville shorts embedded in this thread. It's Sailing, Sailing (Over the Bounding Main)BettyLouSpence wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 11:33 pmOkay, what is that tune called that starts at 0:20? It's ubiquitous to any navy/sea-faring themed film...

And now I'm trying to learn the name of the first tune of the Vitaphone, which is equally ubiquitous. I know it's a hornpipe (or sounds like one), but don't know the title. I think this used to be used as theme music on the Popeye cartoons.
I just watched Arthur Pat West. He's pretty likeable—corny, but likeable. He looks like someone who could have held an audience in the vaudeville days.
I was trying to figure out if he was actually playing the guitar. I think not, although he had some convincing chord shapes he was alternating between. The strings looked awfully loose, too.

I have actually heard this song before!donnie wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 2:17 pmCool! How did you find that?Kitty wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 9:29 amAgain, I'll not embed this, as to only have vaudeville shorts embedded in this thread. It's Sailing, Sailing (Over the Bounding Main)

Pretty good little act. Ann Codee and Frank Orth in A Bird in the Hand (1929) I'd never heard of Ann Codee, but I'd like to see more of her.

Here's another married couple routine, Clara Barry and Orval Whiteledge in Jest for Awhile (1929) (like that title ) They're pretty funny. Mean, but funny. One thing's for sure, the lines never stop in this one.

I have to repost this one. I rewatched it recently and that middle song "Dinah" has been stuck in my head for the last 24 hours. I love the arrangement of that one.
Does it ever happen to you that when you discover something new—a song, video, book, etc.—that you associate it with a particular time of year from then on? I first ran across this Vitaphone in late summer or early fall, and every year about this time, I get a subconscious urge to hear it.
