Antique Books
Re: Antique Books
Now that is a really cool looking book! I'm highly jealous!
Re: Antique Books
I'm going to read it top to bottom, cover to cover, left to right.

Re: Antique Books
This is a later paperback edition of a 1907 book I acquired a few years ago because the internet had finally caught up with my late grandfather’s memory. It was probably a good 30 years ago that the title phrase cropped up in his mind and he couldn’t for the life of him recall where he remembered it from.
Haven’t read it yet but thought I’d share it because of this cool Art Deco cover, with the image flipped on the reverse. There was a film based on it in 1914, but it's now lost.

Cool! Let us know how it is. So, what were the circumstances that your grandfather remembered the phrase, if he didn't remember where he'd heard it?

He was the kind who would just have a phrase or a quote pop into his head out of nowhere and wrestle with it for weeks trying to figure out where it was from. For that matter, so is my dad. For that matter, so am I.

Wonderful illustration. What is the date of this paperback?

Re: Antique Books
Unfortunately it doesn’t give any date besides 1907, but I don’t think it would be any earlier than the late thirties, as paperbacks don’t appear to have been common before then.

According to this website, your book is from 1931. It originally had a slipcase. https://seriesofseries.owu.edu/bonibooks-paper-books/dachshundonstilts wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 9:46 pmUnfortunately it doesn’t give any date besides 1907, but I don’t think it would be any earlier than the late thirties, as paperbacks don’t appear to have been common before then.

Neat! Thanks for the research. Now I want the slipcase! That's an interesting transitional stage between hardcover and pure paperback, I guess.Kitty wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 11:32 amAccording to this website, your book is from 1931.
