Clara, Lu, and Em

Post by Kitty »

This was the very first soap opera. It's cute, especially the 1930s episodes, but this one from 1942, called Em Gives A Party I really enjoyed. It's conversational, so you have to listen closely, and the sound quality is not the best, but I liked this one especially. I wish there were more available.

Here's a fascinating episode where 'Grandpa' comes in and there's a conversation about the Republican party. There's some name dropping in there, and no matter which way you lean politically, it's really interesting to hear this. It should be in the historic registry in my opinion.
Also, based on the available episodes, it's a rare occurrence that anyone besides Clara, Lu, or Em speaks, and it is the first male voice I've heard besides the announcer.
