Re: Dick Cavett

I've just been watching Jack Paar on the Cavett show. Although he had been rather reclusive and hadn't been seen on TV in years at that point, he was right back in stride with that continuous, nervous and entertaining monologue—so much so that Dick could hardly get a word in edgewise. :) I think thi...

Re: Book Reading

I was reading about the Nancy Drew series in Wikipedia, and of the revised version, it says: “…Nancy is depicted as a less impulsive, less headstrong girl…milder, more sedate and refined…— "more sugar and less spice", with an extensive wardrobe and a more charitable outlook.” Would you agree with th...

Re: Instructional Videos/Social Guidance Films

I watched Date Etiquette from 1952 (Coronet). At the end, we suddenly cut into another film on the same subject. I've already posted about that one somewhere back (though I don't remember the title) and so didn't watch it. I like Danny and Alice in this one—they seem like very likable couple. At the...

Re: From Popular Science...

For some reason, in the early days of television, people were apparently fascinated with the idea of photographing images from their TV screens. I've seen several PS articles along these lines.

Re: Book Reading

That's most interesting! I didn't realize they'd done a rewrite of those—not to good effect, it seems. If they wanted to do that, it seems they should have left the original alone except for whatever small tweaks might have been needed to update obsolete references or remove racist characterization,...

Re: Instructional Videos/Social Guidance Films

Thanks for watching these! I enjoyed your thoughts. :D I don't like how I feel when I take a defeatist attitude, and I know these things can be solved in a healthier way. In fact, even watching this video had me comparing certain things I've been going through with the suggestions in this video, and...

Re: Noun game

(Did you know that the Aladdin stories are not original to the 1001 Nights? They are what are called Orphan Stories that were added in later.) No, I didn't know that! When I think about those stories, I always think about Scheherazade , that wonderful orchestral tone poem of Rimsky-Korsakov. :he: N...

Re: Food Commercials

 That's kind of an odd one—don't think I've seen a cereal commercial that vivacious and jubilant.
