I couldn't help but imagine that the story was set in the 1910s!
Aww! I love that. ☺️
I imagined it in the early 1900’s, as well. :)
It kind of makes sense, because that's when Bunny Brown was published.... Maybe I wrote it in that era subconsciously! ☺️
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

 That was a nice funny one.

I must admit, I really loved the second stanza. I actually think that even out of context, it works nicely:
It started out so peacefully,
The Jokers were on bended knees.
The birds all sang a happy tune,
The bees all hummed the song of June.
Go ride the music!
Go ride the music!

I'm not sure why, but there's something about the spirit of that poem that made me remember a favorite nonsense poem of mine:

One bright morning in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And ran to save the two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true,
Ask the blind man—he saw it, too.
