Featuring Celebrities

Here's one with Spanky in a bicycle ad shown in theaters. It reminds me of that one knife infomercial that was shown in theaters.

Arthur Godfrey with a very amusing commercial for Lipton Soup. I kind of want some now. 🙂🙂

Wow!!! This is one of the most interesting toys I've seen. Remco Movieland! Patty Duke is the little girl. (I admit, had to find that out for myself.)

Here's Howdy Doody for Colgate Dental Cream. Dig that crazy stop motion!
Come to think of it, up until now I have never seen Howdy Doody in action. I didn't know he was a marionette. I thought he was a ventriloquist dummy like Jerry Mahoney and Charlie McCarthy. Howdy Doody was just BAD compared to the ventriloquist acts. But this commercial is cool. 🙂

These are really interesting to watch.

Spanky: Boy, I’ll bet that set up some industrial-strength hounding of parents!

Roy: Well, that was the heyday of the Westerns. Still seems kind of odd - guns + Nestle Quik.

Godfrey: Yes, I love that one. I have it in my iTunes library and have watched it probably 50 times. (I don’t know why.) :) He knew how to make something appealing, didn't he?

Remco: That's a really neat toy. What if you had one of those in mint condition?? $$$ Yes, I spotted Patty right away.

Howdy: I think that’s actually my first time seeing him in action as well. I never thought about his being a marionette, either. Mr. Decay looks like one scary dude!

I've seen the Godfrey commercial, though I'm not sure if I'd watched the whole thing before. I would like to see more like that. I think it's so appealing because he seems to be actually talking to you instead of yelling confidently as if he's trying to convince himself that it's so wonderful. I think he actually believed in his products. He's also not reading off a script, which makes it looks so natural. I don't know why people hate on Arthur Godfrey so much. He's actually real and funny. It's why I love that Sundial program so much. I wish there were more out there like that!

I imagine it has to do with the Julius Larosa incident. I think that's really what sunk him, to a large extent, in the public eye.

This Budweiser commercial presented by Ed McMahon is pretty cringeworthy and awkward for so many reasons.
