That's an odd one!
Concerning yesterday's JOTD, the scene with the husband having being held captive to hold his hands while the wife wraps yarn around them shows up in cartoons, jokes, movies, etc. What's the deal with that? Can't you just wind the yarn around a chair back or something? Why do they needs hands to hold it ?

Isn't that interesting? I don't know. They even have a story about that in an antique children's book I have. Maybe it was a type of activity that was sort of social. I mean, I bet a lot of secrets were shared between family members while "rolling the skein" as they say.

Yes, I'll bet you're right. It also seems to have been seen as a kind of symbol of married bliss or homely, domestic contentment. Or maybe they just didn't have anything else to do?
