Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
Re: Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
Boy, that index card turned out to be handy, didn't it. It took me awhile to recognize that the guy playing Allen is the same one in the classic dating one.
Re: Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
Ha! I did not notice that at all! You're good!
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

I like this little short from 1930. It attempts to encourage spending money to help the economy.

That's a bit of an odd one. I understand the message, but all I could think of when the man started ordering was "Sheesh! Going a bit overboard!" and who orders their pie with their meal?

Re: Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
Maybe that was a 1930 thing.

One thing I think this is interesting about this is that it promotes things that are generally discouraged today such as overeating and spending money instead of being prudent and saving. But they were in the dire straights of the depression, and I suppose the point was a good one that a lot of what promotes an economic downturn is psychological.
I wonder how milk and crackers would taste?

Here's a fascinating short film from 1919 on How Animated Cartoons Are Made.

That's a good one.
I like the score, too.

Re: Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
This is kind of an odd one. The filmmakers don't seem to know exactly what lesson they want to teach. And Jeff seems awfully slow on the uptake. I wonder if he'll realize it when he's married?

Re: Instructional Videos/Teaching Films
I really enjoyed that short.
It's sort of strange that neither of them realize they're going steady... Especially for the girl! When a girl likes someone, they definitely think about where it might go.
Also, Jeff's family likes to say the phrase 'quite a while' a lot.
Does it seem weird to you that the parents are encouraging dating a lot of different people? I never got the dating talk, as I didn't have my first date 'til I was 24. It seems like such a nice time to be a teenager and having a social life the way these kids seem to. I wonder if it really was quite the way tv and movies portray it? Was life back then really as thoughtful as it seems?
This video seems to have some sound issues. It almost seems like it had been done in the 30s! I guess it would be sort of typical for a low budget film to have this quality.
How did you find this one? There must be so many more of these films we haven't seen!! I think it's great that so many of these still exist.
