Favorite Old Songs
Re: Favorite Old Songs
Yes, indeed. A most unique sound.
Re: Favorite Old Songs
I asked someone how to pronounce Marlene Dietrich's first name, because I thought I'd been saying it wrong all this time. Turns out I was!! Did you know her name is pronounced this way? I also never heard this song before, so it was a double bonus.

Re: Favorite Old Songs
No, I didn't know that—I'd always pronounced it "Mar-leen." That's a beautiful singing voice.
Re: Favorite Old Songs
I have been pronouncing it Marlaynuh! Well, in my head of course. I probably never have said her name in audible conversation.

Re: Favorite Old Songs
No, I haven't heard that one. Some dark lyrics there!
Re: Favorite Old Songs
Here's an interesting one that I only just heard today. Have you heard it? The Thing.
It's by Phil Harris. If you don't know what he's most famous for by name, maybe you'll recognize his voice.

Re: Favorite Old Songs
That's a funny one. No, I'd not heard it before.
Phil Harris was a very well-known singer back in the 40s (?), I believe. He was married to the actress Alice Faye. What I remember him most for is as the voice of Baloo the bear in Disney's The Jungle Book from the 60s.

Re: Favorite Old Songs
Here is the song that I've had in my head for days now -- it's called A Friend of Johnny's. This is a version by The Ink Spots. The version I know is by Tony Fontane, but that one is nowhere to be found on YouTube! Quite frustrating, but this one is good enough. There is a slight difference between this version and the one by Tony Fontane. At the part where it talks about him being lonely and keeping an eye on the phone, my version says "Except he smokes a little too much, and he dreams a little too much... At a party he's hard to find...."
