Cab Calloway

Post by Kitty »

I love listening to Cab Calloway. Have you heard of him? He was a smooth, wild guy. One of my favorite things about him is his songs that mention Minnie the Moocher. Yes, there were more than one! The three I know about are Minnie the Moocher, Minnie the Moocher's Wedding Day, and Kickin' the Gong Around. His older sister, Blanche Calloway, was also a singer. She mentions Minnie in that song, too!!!

This was shared by Donnie, and I thought it was fantastic, so I'm sharing it here. Something about Cab just melts my heart like butter!

He originally said: Yeah, Cab is fantastic. He also recorded "Blues in the Night," a song many of us have probably heard in old Warner Brothers cartoons.

I just saw that last month. I don't know why I didn't know that all those stars were in it. If I had known, I'd have watched it a long time ago! It was thrilling to hear all that music. I still have yet to see Blues Brothers 2000.

I love this song---extremely of it's era, and will stay there. I've never heard a song like this: I have heard this song many times but just today realized what he was saying. Here are the lyrics.

That's a most unusual song—Cab Calloway was really a creative genius. Thanks for posting the link to the lyrics, as some of the words got past me.

Ain't Got A Gal in this Town - Cab Calloway

Love the way he sings this, and the lyrics, too. Classic blues content.

Oh Hi-De-Ho, I love Cab Calloway and I can see that Little Richard and Prince loved Cab Calloway too. I mean the way he moves around on stage for sure a precursor to a lot of singing performances and music videos.
