Theme Songs

Post by Kitty »

Let's discuss theme songs to TV shows we enjoy. This song just randomly popped into my head a few minutes ago. This version is kind of cool, because it has an extended version of the opening that I never knew existed. Full House-Everywhere you look.

Great idea for a thread! :D
I had never heard that version either.

This is my favorite theme of all time. I think this is an extended version, too.

I've never seen that one, but it looks funny. The song sounded familiar, and I couldn't figure it out. Once it got to the chorus I realized why. It was used as a joke on Seinfeld! I'll post that link in another thread.
I couldn't find the opening video to As Told By Ginger, but yesterday this song popped into my head. This is the version I remember, with Macy Gray singing.

That sounds very familiar to me—especially that last phrase, about the grass being greener on the other side—but I don't think I ever watched the show, so I can't figure out why. :?:

I always admired the opening of Cheers. Actually, the show itself didn't appeal to me that much, but I thought the theme was extremely well done, both visually and musically.

Yes, I always liked that opening! I've watched every single episode of Cheers and Frasier. I loved both, although I didn't like at the end of Cheers that Frasier broke up with Lilith, as they were perfect together. It made the spin off feel like there may have been something missing. Even though Lilith would make appearances in Frasier, it was apparent that they should never have divorced I did think it was cool that they kept the same boy as the son, though. I do think it's kind of weird that even though they portrayed Frasier as a good guy and a loving father in his show, he really didn't see his son as often as someone on good terms with the ex-wife and a loving father normally would.
When my husband and I watched Cheers, it brought back some warm feelings; my parents used to watch that show, and while I was too young to get it, I really liked the song and pictures in the opening. Did you know that those were real vintage photos that they used, (doctored up a bit, maybe altered a little).
Regarding As Told By Ginger, that show started in 2000 on Nickelodeon. Maybe someone in your household watched it? Could be why you recognize the part of the theme.

That's nice. :) Yes, I figured they'd hunted up some vintage photos and partially colorized some of them. That was certainly a unique idea for a sitcom intro. Speaking of unique ideas:

Taxi was different, wasn't it? I used to watch it when it was on Nick At Nite, but I was too young to really understand it. I always thought that Christopher Lloyd's character was a lot like Kramer from Seinfeld. He was very strange. Speaking of strange, I kind of liked the few episodes I've seen on youtube of Max Headroom. This opening wins the award of the 'non-tellingest of all tv themes'. This opening tells you nothing about this show.

The Andy Griffith Show and it had words. My dad and me would always try to whistle the intro and start laughing and you can't whistle when you are laughing.

and hey did you know that The Bonanza theme song had words too. Jeez we loved Bonanza at our house. But man oh man, I'd never want to marry Ben Cartwright, that man was the kiss of death. Every woman he ever married died. Somebody ought to have looked into that.

We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!

That's interesting! I never knew those had words, though I think I like them better as instrumentals—maybe just because that's what I'm used to.

The Andy Griffith Show is my favorite that has ever been on TV, bar none. I have seen every episode no telling how many times and can almost recite the dialogue. The first season or two was a little corny, and the color episodes, though good, are not as classic as the B&W ones. The middle seasons are the best—the writing and character development in those was superb. So different from many of the sitcoms now which seem to just consist of wise-cracking punch lines every 10 seconds.

Bonanza was popular at our house too. We never missed it. Remember how it used to be sponsored by Chevrolet? See the USA, in your Chevrolet...

That reminds me of the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. She'd sing that song at the end of every episode. I think that's interesting.
