I'm really glad you liked it. Something about the fact that it was once thought lost, plus the early thirties-ness, made me really enjoy it.

You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
Re: Svengoolie
A couple of more thoughts about this one:
Lillian Bond reminded a lot of Clara Bow in some of her early talkies, a little in her appearance (particularly the eyes), but more especially in her personality and behavior.
Also, I think there were kind of some partial red herrings for the viewer, plot-wise. For instance, it was emphasized that whenever the brother would give Morgan an instruction, Morgan would not respond until he got the signal that it was ok from the sister. But that never really developed into anything.

Re: Svengoolie
We watch Svengoolie quite often. Just last Saturday he showed a restored version of the original Invaders From Mars, it was glorious. This movie has been a fav of mine since childhood. So it was a real treat to watch it. I like Svengoolie alot, he is so cornball and cheesey, but it works.
We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
Re: Svengoolie
I have it recorded, I couldn't watch it bc we went to a concert last Saturday. So cool to hear you watch Svengoolie, too!Mrs. Danvers wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 8:03 amWe watch Svengoolie quite often. Just last Saturday he showed a restored version of the original Invaders From Mars, it was glorious.
It's amazing that he's been doing it for so long, like 45 years! and still hosting a show. Not many to can say that for themselves.Mrs. Danvers wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 8:03 amI like Svengoolie alot, he is so cornball and cheesey, but it works.
