For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with stop motion. This short animation is from 1951, and was also on my old VHS that Grandpa got us. The wonders of YouTube let me share this with you today. It's a neat Rapunzel retelling in all its stop motion glory.

You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

Here's a simple classic retelling of Little Miss Muffet in glorious stop motion. I love the ends! It's hard to imagine the queen that went into even a short 2 minute thing like this.https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLVKQkWZfhyyKxmPcXwaB7T6YDk8VgLOTC&v=J6jMe8hx4GU

Re: Classic Stop Motion
The style of this reminds me of the later work of another Russian, Wladyslaw Starewicz. I ran across his Fetiche on Honeymoon (1936) a few years ago—a wonderfully odd creation.

Re: Classic Stop Motion
Am I missing something? This says there are english subtitles, but I can't seem to figure out how to turn them on. I watched 3 minutes of it, and realized I'm supposed to be reading what they are singing/saying!

Re: Classic Stop Motion
I'm not sure if there are subtitles or not. There isn't that much dialogue, and the story is pretty easy to follow without a translation.
Re: Classic Stop Motion
I agree, but while watching, I felt I was missing out when I read above in the link "english subtitles". Thank you so much for sharing. I'm going to watch it in full right now.

Re: Classic Stop Motion
I really liked this! I especially was fascinated by the underwater scene. How do they DO this kind of work? So beautiful. The lightning man in the sky reminded me of the Heat Miser/Snow Miser in The Year Without A Santa Claus.
In short, this was simply neato!

From the annals of the "What and Why?" comes this trippy Vitagraph short - Dolly Daisy in Hearts and Flowers (1930). According to

this was originally released with sound, but the soundtrack hasn't surfaced.
