Random Animated Shorts

Post by Kitty »

I thought it would be nice to share animation that we like, without being confined to old things per se. I'm going to start with a 2006 classic (in my mind at least!).

This one has always stuck in my mind. I saw this years ago. I believe it has won awards. Sebastian's Voodoo (2008)

I kind of like this little satirical black comedy from Ireland. Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty (2008) is a dark comedy that clocks in at just 6 minutes long. Granny tells a special version of the literary classic Sleeping Beauty to her granddaughter.

A neato animated short called Las Aventuras de Mr. Coo (2007). No, it doesn't make much sense, but it is very imaginative. Enjoy the ride!

Oh, man! I just discovered this amazing artist. His name is Tomoki Misato from Japan. He is 26, and has an awesome talent. He made Look At Me Only just 2 years ago.
This is a beautiful stop motion animation.

Great find, Kitty. I've not heard of Tomoki Misato either but he looks like a seasoned veteran. At least his animation seems that refined. Fantastic!

Thank you!! He was featured on a show called Anime Supernova on a PBS type channel. This channel only includes programming about Japanese culture.

Here's another artist featured on Anime Supernova. Miyo Sato is only 30 now, and in 2015 this was her graduate work at Tokyo University of the Arts. I think she is fantastic. I love the dreamlike quality of this, and the folklore element solidifies this as being a memorable one for me.
Miyo Sato paints on glass to create her effect. She also uses other things including sand on glass.
This is called Fox Fears.

What a beautifully strange and dark little animation! It does indeed have a dreamlike quality. The visual quality makes it seem to exist nowhere in particular but in the mind.
