Great Cartoons
Re: Great Cartoons
Glad you liked it! And thanks for the background information. I was vaguely aware that it was based on an old story, but didn't know any of the details. And yes, these cartoons do have a special, indefinable feeling about them.
Re: Great Cartoons
Here's a nice Terrytoon from 1944, The Helicopter. The cat is funny. The only thing I don't understand is, how did that quaint, tiny shop in the sleepy village turn into a massive multi-storied department store?

Nice!!!! Thank you for the better copy.
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
Re: Heartwarming Cartoons
Time to bump this lovely cartoon. Who knew that one could become so invested in the love story of two hats?Kitty wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:23 amJohnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet. Weirdly, I could not find this on YouTube! It used to be there! I'm thankful for Daily Motion!

Re: Great Cartoons
This guy's got a definite problem. A funny (though rather cynical) and borderline surreal one from 1957: John Doormat in Topsy TV.
This one played off the TV boom of the '50s. It was apparently released for theatrical use, because it's in (very) wide-screen CinemaScope. Interesting abstract-style animation, too.

It was a real 5 year old who did baby plucky's voice. He's soooo cute!

Re: Great Cartoons
I'm bumping this from the Word Association thread a long ways back. One of my favorites to watch each year along about this time.
