Toon In With Me

Post by Kitty »

There is a television channel we have here called MeTV. This is the same channel that airs Svengoolie, which I've mentioned on the forum before.

There's also a hosted cartoon program called Toon In With Me, where Toony the Tuna (a cute tuna puppet) presents, with his human co-host Bill, old cartoons. They do silly little skits in between the cartoons. Today there was a news theme.

The first cartoon was Nutty News.
(Link broken)

The second was I Got Plenty of Mutton.

The third was Person to Bunny.

This next one is Hot Time on Ice. I got this from a Chilly Willy fan site, so it isn't embedded.

And the final cartoon that Toon In With Me Showed on this episode was

Porky's Snooze Reel

Thanks for the links. I enjoyed watching those classic cartoons. :D The animation on these is really high quality, isn't it? And the '40's ones have so many topical references that only adults would probably have gotten.

It stuck me watching these also how many sound effect tropes and conventions there were (like the airplane engine sound when a character is falling). Also, there's that kind of "oddity-oddity" sound that turns up so often. You know the one I'm talking about? Happens at :29 in Nutty News and again at 3:03 in I Got Plenty of Mutton. (That one was hilarious.)

Which one was your favorite, and why?

Glad you enjoyed these. It's always going to be the Bugs Bunny cartoons for me. They always have the most personality.

I didn't watch that one, as it was not in English. But you're right, those Bugs cartoons are masterpieces!

Ok! Thanks. :D

This is the first time I've seen this one. And in the middle of it, I got hungry for a carrot and had to stop it to go get one. I've been trouble getting good carrots lately, but that's another story... Anyway, this one is kind of odd in terms of plot. And the cigarette smoking interviewer was obviously a parody of someone, but I'm not sure who. Do you have any idea?

According to wikipedia, it's a spoof of Edward R. Murrows from the series Person To Person.

Ah, I see. Hence, Mr. "Burrows". Thanks.

Is there anything Wikipedia does not have an article on?

I've definitely run into things that I couldn't get any information on! But it's pretty rare! :D

Today was a Valentine's Toon In With Me. From 1936, Tex Avery's Don't Look Now.

A Tom and Jerry cartoon called Tom and Cherie (1955). It's one of the few episodes where the two never cross paths. Don't worry, they're supposed to be speaking French. :D

Pepe Le Pew in Little Beau Pepe (1952)
I don't particularly like Pepe, but I know a lot of people do.

1961's Bear and the Bees

Some bizarre things in this one. The Stupid Cupid, 1944.
