Re: Vintage Photos at Random
Looks like that picture was taken around holiday time. You can see the decorations. Not to mention the lady is holding a bunch of wrapped packages.
From a quick search, I think this may be in Pismo Beach CA. If not, I think it's CA anyway.
Fun! Thanks for sharing.

You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

Interesting, I didn't know where it was. A nice, nostalgic pic. I'm a little worried about that woman just standing in the middle of the street, though.
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
It's ok, the cop's keeping her safe!

This is a colorized photo of Washington DC in 1935.

So that's how it looked...We forget the world was in color then.
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
Yes. Black and white adds to the far off fairyland type view we have, which is not always the best thing.

In that particular photo of things at a distance, I'm not sure if I would even have noticed the age by the just glancing at it. The cars are about the only giveaway. If you could descend into that photo and walk into one of those stores, then you'd be struck by the difference.
I wonder if that sense of distance is one of the appeals of current B&W photography.
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
Very well could be.
