Vintage Photos at Random
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
That's awesome!
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
I ran across this interesting photo in the new Silent-ology article on the 1915 gangster film Regeneration.
Laundry hanging from tenement houses in New York, ca. 1900-1910.

Oh, wow!!! That's a sight to see. What if you didn't clip the clothing well and it hit the ground? What a pain! And was it white day?

I'll bet that happened a lot! It wouldn't stay on the ground long, I'm sure. What I wonder is how they ever got that mess rigged up. I guess the City of New York must have put all those polls up for them to attach all that stuff to (?)
Most of it appears to be underwear, long johns and such, and sheets. I don't know what they did with the dark clothes.

I wanted to share this video with you guys. Some of the earliest photos ever taken are here. There is one (extremely long) comment by Omar Garcia that I feel is very worth reading, if you get a chance. If you can't find it, I took screenshots of it just in case.

I saw this video some time ago. Fascinating! I've not read the comment. I'll look around for that.

A candid photo of two flapper girls:
I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show
a fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
and celluloid heroes never really die...

One of my favorite 1920s pictures: couple riding a zipline... of doom, it would seem... let's hope there was something to adequately break their fall at the bottom
