Vintage Photos at Random
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
How cute! I also like the old Vogue magazines in the background!
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

10,000 calories?? I hope that's advertising hyperbole.

A daguerreotype of a young woman, found in the wreckage of the S. S. Central America which was a ship that sunk in the 1850s.

Wow...doesn't she look strangely modern, somehow?
Re: Vintage Photos at Random
Daguerreotypes always look like that! Isn't it gorgeous?

Re: Vintage Photos at Random
She looks like she's dressed for a ball. The loose curls give an air of intimacy. I wonder who she was.
I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show
a fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
and celluloid heroes never really die...

It's an intriguing photo. And hairstyle doesn't really look characteristic of any 19th century style I can remember seeing. I guess we'll never know the answer to that question. Apparently daguerreotypes survive sea water well.BettyLouSpence wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 8:25 pmShe looks like she's dressed for a ball. The loose curls give an air of intimacy. I wonder who she was.

I got curious, and it does seem that the hairstyle is uncommon! I saw a few with similar hairstyle, but most have their hair up with the sides falling down. (Actually, both men and women seemed to have that same hairstyle!) Anyway, that makes me think that Betty's comment about the curls looking intimate is pretty on-the-nose. That's a pretty sexy dress she has on, too! This might have been taken for her significant other.donnie wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 10:19 pmIt's an intriguing photo. An early US Postal Service vehicle. They started the use of electric vehicles in 1899. I'm not sure if this one is from 1899 or a little later.
