I imagine they were pretty accurate with one big telephone company controlling all phone service (AT&T in the U.S.) Nowadays, it would be much more difficult to assess accurately, I would guess.

Back to that guy riding on the log in the sky... He could be riding... IN THIS!

 I'm pretty sure that one is fake. I believe I saw this on Twitter beside the real one. I forget what the original is. Gravy?

Edit: Here's an article on this. It's amazing work, isn't it? https://www.retroist.com/2017/01/30/potato-fudge-fake/

 You know it crossed my mind this afternoon "I wonder is this is fake"...nah, no way, it looks too real. Oh, well... :D That's a really clever job of photoshopping. And with some of the concoctions they attempted to sell back then... I wouldn't have been too surprised if there was such a thing. I liked the write-up at that link.

Ok, how about this equally - ulp - appetizing one?

That ad is confusing. But it reminds me of when I was very little. My parents owned a beach store on the Manasquan boardwalk in NJ, and we'd run around all day on the beach and boardwalk one summer. My mom had a Yamaha keyboard that made all kinds of sounds, including a flyswatter noise! Well, we'd play with that for hours in between running up and down the boardwalk, visiting the ice cream shop, and stubbing my toe on the boardwalk in my bare feet (or flip flops). I can't say how many times I visited the first aid station to get a band aid from there!!
Anyway, thanks for posting this ad. Those were precious times for me.
