Poem Search

Post by Kitty »

We are trying to find a long lost poem that was first referenced in the word association thread. In searching, there are a lot of uplifting ones that are great, but not quite it. Since they're so nice, I've decided to create a thread of our findings. If you have anything poems to contribute that fit the below criteria and might be 'the one' please feel free to add it in this thread!

When I was a small kid, the mother of one of my friends had a poem taped above the kitchen sink that said something about trouble, and double trouble, and how smiling would make trouble burst like a bubble. I'll have to see if I can find that. It greatly confused me as a child. :) (I'm sure she'd have been glad to explain it to me if I'd asked, but there are so many obvious things you wonder about but never seem to ask about when you're a child.)
The poem was probably three or four short stanzas.
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

"There's many a trouble
Would burst like a bubble,
And into the waters of Lethe depart,
Did we not rehearse it,
And tenderly nurse it,
And give it a permanent place in our heart."

Man, is that the truth! :) Good advice.

Those are some interesting entries.

Old Time: I’m not sure I quite understood this one. Is the poem addressing memories you don't want to recall, maybe? Old Man Trouble is decidedly cynical! And the first stanza of When a Cloud Comes Over the Sun reminds me of that Lincoln quotation, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” :P
