It seems like an interesting concept!! The name is not very catchy, though.

Once in awhile you see these double ads, or ads for two unrelated products in one. Here we have engine parts + chewing gum and Green Giant beans + BB guns. :)

Can you think of any modern examples of this? I don't think I've seen any.

Those are interesting segues into the next ad. No, I don't think they do this anymore. Advertisers pay too much to have their ads shared by others. The chewing gum was especially a stretch.... I wonder how much gum would be on factory floors if owners gave into this marketing ploy?

It seems people of decades ago times were satisfied in a lot of ways with simple things that are less than we want today. Agree? Here is a good example from the October 1948 edition. Can you imagine instructions for something like this in a magazine today? :D
