Letter
Letter
I like to see handwritten things from people of the past. I think these two written by Mabel Normand are interesting. The recommendation one sold at auction somewhere—at a high price, I'm sure—and possibly the other one, too.

Re: Letter
Cool! The first one looks like such a different hand writing compared to the second one. I wonder what year they were written.

Re: Letter
Yes, I was struck by the difference, too. They almost look written by different individuals. I suppose she was being very careful in the first one as it was a more formal letter. Did you notice that she does not use any punctuation and misspells a couple of words? I'm not sure when they were written, but the lower one could have been written later when she was ill, and might have accounted for the difference in handwriting, too.
Re: Letter
Maybe you're right. The bottom letter almost looks like it's written by a child. If she was very ill, it would make sense.

Re: Letter
I wonder what Mabel would think... if she knew that a personal letter she wrote to a friend to get a bootlegger's telephone number was now posted on the internet and its handwriting being scrutinized?
Re: Letter
I don't know! Depends on what kind of person she was. It could go either way!

Re: Letter
Actually it probably wouldn't bother her very much; in fact she'd probably think it was funny.
