This is from the 1897 reproduction. I love the variety of Victorian style headings.

One of the things I like best about browsing the old catalogues is the descriptions they use. Here's an example from the '27 catalogue. I really want one of these clocks after reading this copy! If this alarm clock were being sold in a catalogue today, it would just say something like " Nickel-plated case, 8-day movement. Height 6 in. Shipping weight 2 3/4 lbs." :(

This seems like a really cool clock! I love the poetic tone... "It is as inevitable as the dawn itself."

Yes, and it makes you feel that by buying one, you're joining that "cheery good morning" punctual nationwide crowd. :)

Here's another bit from the '27 catalogue. I wonder why the organist Ralph Waldo Emerson has the exact same name as the famous writer. And what would be a wonder bean??

I'm totally googling these songs in the near future!!! I'd not heard of a Kentucky wonder bean before, but this is what the dictionary says:

Yes, I didn’t have much luck with Google on the Kentucky Wonder Bean, either, except where to order seeds if I want to plant some next spring.

Kind of creepy there, Mr. Sears... :|
This is from an online one at the Internet Archive. The date of the catalogue isn't given, but looks to be ~1912-1920.

Pretty strange! These are small, so these were probably for children. I bet they looked very weird in person.

From the '22 catalogue. One thing music of this era had: variety. :) Sybil must have been quite a virtuoso.

What I'm wondering is: wouldn't filling this thing and emptying it be a massive job??
