Yes, I've had a crush on Mabel for a long time. Her personality was so charmingly mischievous. I liked the message in that ad, too. I thought that was very meaningful for those times, and agree that it is today also.

I don't know anything about this film company. I googled and found nothing, even when googling the man's name under the picture. Maybe it wasn't successful? This is the only mention in Motion Picture Story Magazine, and this was way back.

Nope, never heard of that one. It must not have ever gotten off the ground.

I posted in the Silent film group on FB, and someone replied with little info. I know they had the year wrong, somehow, though, because this was in a May 1912 issue. I'm sure the guy writing the book just got the year wrong. And the kind responder means 'star' not 'stat'.

Here's a saucy lobby card from 1927. :D

I've always been curious about this film. TCM did screen it one time 2 or 3 years ago, but I missed it. The early talkies fascinate me, and this is the first "all talking".

Here are a couple for a Lois Weber-directed film—unfortunately, seems to be a lost film. I imagine it to have been a drama with a moral lesson, something like Hypocrites. I like the first one much the better—the second looks like a swamp monster from a horror film.

That film looks amazing based upon the artwork! Looks to be from 1918. It's a reissued version of Scandal, 1915.

Seeing the portrait of Al reminded me of these two ads I wanted to post.

You know, I was just thinking, looking at those...don't those make you want to go and see the movie? They look fun, inviting, and attractive. In contrast, ads for today's films (mostly in video form thrown up in my face on YouTube or Imdb) repel me with their loud obnoxious assault on my sensibilities. Sigh. Maybe I'm just behind the times. If so, I want to stay there. ;) Sermonette concluded.
