Have you a Tom Swifty?

Post by donnie »

I love Tom Swifties and am always looking for new ones to add to my collection. If you're not sure what a Tom Swifty is, it's a type of pun where a modifier or other word in the last part of a sentence humorously pertains to the quotation in the first part of the sentence.

Examples:

"I'm sick of working in this muffler shop," said Tom exhaustedly.
or
"Yes, I've always liked Sinatra," said Tom frankly.
or
"I found the switch," Tom said in delight.

Get it? :D

Hmm. Like this?

"I have a passion for running," Tom said swiftly.

Does it have to be a quote, and does the story always have to be about Tom?
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

That's the idea. :)
Traditionally, it's always a quote by Tom (not sure why), but I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be.

Another:
"I didn't get to see the whale!" Tom blubbered. :D

"That hot dog looks delicious!" said Tom with relish.

"The best house pet is a cat," Tom hissed.

Good ones!

"I keep dropping my toothpaste," Tom replied, crestfallen.

 I like that one.

"That's so unsettling!" Tom said, nervously.

"Let's go to the silent movie screening," Tom pantomimed.

"Ouch I've stepped on a nail." Tom said pointedly.
