I think that's Lady Justice!
Ah! I see. I didn't even notice the scale. So the two men represent Capital and Labor, then, who work together for...Justice, I guess. :)

Are all three living persons or is Lady Justice AI, so to speak? I know tableaux vivants were popular back in that era.

And the next question: what kinds of uniforms are those the people are wearing? I need to sic ChatGPT on all this.

Do it! I'd be interested to see if anything comes up.

I enjoyed reading those. :D Yes, I was also surprised at how heavily fictionalized the story of Columbus was. The author was more interested in getting the gist of Columbus's accomplishments across to the children than in any question of historical accuracy.

The story of the pumpkins made me think of the singing pumpkins in one of my favorite cartoons, the Comicolor Jack Frost (1934). :)

It's interesting that election day was included in the holidays. Referring to the photo of Wilson, I wonder why they used those wire-cage ballot boxes (though the text says a machine that removed them from sight).

I'm not sure, but maybe the machine rolled it out of sight into this wire box behind it.

Sweet letter. This writer sure does like SVO declarative sentences, one after the other. :D
