Joe's gone totally off the deep end! I can see how he'd be traumatized, but he's been turned into an irrational madman.

And here Angie's back. Twice. Rocking a lime-green dress. Why has she still got a grudge against Liz?

And during all these goings-on, with Joe tearing around house and committing a kidnapping, Amy screaming, Elizabeth screaming, Carolyn screaming, Julia rushing up and down the stairs...where is Roger? And David? Slumbering peacefully in their rooms, I guess?

The person I really feel for here is Julia, having to try to negotiate all this!

Maggie says she left Amy playing at the old house. Why would she be playing at the old house?

To answer your question, I think Joe has suspected something very weird has been going on with Chris and when he saw the shirt he put 2+2 together.

Well, that's what Maggie is going to do. And talk about a sudden shift in gears. She gets a phone call late one night, and one hour later, wham-bam and thank you, Sam, she's changed residences and occupations.

A rather strange episode. It's hard to see where any of this is leading.

I wonder why, when Barnabas introduced to David and Amy the idea of their going to Boston, they agreed happily—and then in private were panicking because they couldn't leave, as it would be against Quentin's wishes. Quentin is annoying me, and he's not even shown up yet.

I really felt sorry for Barnabas when he was alone and emotional in Vicky's room.

Right! I wonder what modern audiences said about the striking colors that started appearing in the show. Makeup and clothing doesn't match at all. Maybe this was the style back then, and I'm just not hip to the culture.

I imagine they hear it all, but roll over and fall right back to sleep, much like if you were awakened by thunder or the house creaking. "Oh, just the regular goings on in Collinwood! Nothing odd here!"

Poor Amy! David never had anything like this happen to him!

Why would Carolyn immediately think that Amy ran away? Maybe she's in the bathroom? I don't think my immediate thought would be she ran away. Unless she was threatening to run away and I forgot.

The person I really feel for here is Julia, having to try to negotiate all this!

So true. She's probably so fed up with all of this. No one is wanting to listen to any of her advice and everyone is arguing with her. I never thought I would say this, but she's the only rational person in the place.

So creepy, Amy has no idea why Joe is kidnapping her. She must be so frightened.

You know, as much as I enjoy this show, my biggest criticism that just hit me now is there's no one who is steadfast and level-headed. By this I mean there's no one they can totally rely on. There's no one that you know when they come into the episode they'll save the day. For me, that used to be Joe. But obviously that's out the window. Hoffman is sorta kinda like that, but she's always feeling out of control, too.

That's not the direction they wanted to go in this show, though, which is fine. This is just something that I want, not something that should be

Elizabeth is clearly breathing. Hoffman is the absolute worst at telling if someone is dead.

You'd think Amy would be at least slightly traumatized at the almost kidnapping. It's like that previous episode never happened.

Now, it's strange that Mrs. Johnson asked Barnabas if the burial arrangements had been made. Wouldn't that really be Roger's job, as he's her closest kin?

Easter egg! You can see some kind of piece of equipment behind Barnabas around 5:03ish.

Mr. Jarrett totally asked Mrs Johnson is Mr. Johnson was there, not Mr. Collins. And if he was looking for a Mr Collins, he may also have been talking about Roger. She didn't even specify!

It's also very very strange that David doesn't seem to care that his aunt has died.

My guess is childish excitement. They want to go, but when Barnabas walks away they realize they're not really supposed to be leaving according to Quentin's direction.

I agree! Why are they being so mysterious about him? Maybe they weren't really 100% sure what kind of character he was going to be yet? He must not be super insufferable as time goes on since his was a major arc and a big part of the books too apparently.

When Mrs Johnson asks what she should do with Vicky's things, I was shocked that Barnabas answered to destroy them. What!

It's also ridiculous that he would say to get rid of a 200-year-old music box. You know how much money that be worth?? And it still works? That would be a severe collector's item for sure.

I think the fact that Vicky is gone has hit Mrs. Johnson the hardest of all of them!

On the phone, Hoffman told Chris that the only name Joe kept saying was his. Later the cop told Chris that he mentioned a lot of names but it was Chris's most frequently. Which one is it, Mister?

Did I miss/forget something? How is Barnabas going to take the kids to Boston when he is going to inexplicably be gone every single day until dusk, off to sleep in a coffin?

Good girl, Carolyn. Don't lose that determination. Somehow it has to come out that Elizabeth is actually alive. That being said, her hair makes her look like a Stepford wife or Amish, or something. Fix it, woman!

The picture of the hanged person looks a lot to me like Frankenstein's monster from the 1910 silent film.

I forgot how much of a Beatle Barnabas looked like in that era.

Roger's actor hasn't been in the show for quite a while. This is the first we've seen of him in over a week. I'm not sure which episode he was in last. And come to think of it, Barnabas was about to take his son to Boston without his knowledge, presumably.

The scene in the Blue Whale with Barnabas and Joe's 1796 character when Barnabas announces that he's dead and gets shot.... Is there any one running that joint?? He (also presumably) saw the whole thing.

If he went back in time, wouldn't he be a duplicate of himself rather than assuming I'm his old form? It made sense with Vicky because she was literally from the future. If people just assumed their original form, then she wouldn't be alive to experience 1796. Am I making sense?

Nathan's gun is incredibly and comically huge. And again, where is the barkeep?

Wow! Yet another Vicky! This one is very pretty.

Why did he just not explain to her that he's the same Barnabas Collins instead of making up some bs story about Ben telling him Peter's name.

Stupid, stupid Ben!! Why would he tell him how to kill Barnabas?

Did the crossbow thing happen in the other 1796 timeline? It seems awfully familiar.

At first, I thought Crystal was Joan Bennett and I was extremely confused.

Millicent reminds me a little of Carol Wayne with the high, sweet, clueless way she speaks.

He would have done better to just kidnap Vicky to save her from the gallows. Why would he ever trust Angelique???

Also, why would Barnabas be held to his bargain when Angelique didn't hold her end?

The way that Hoffman's 1796 character repeats "stake through his heart....." Looking confused makes me wonder if she thinks they're talking about a steak ..... Like the food ....

"Steak through the heart? Why, how would that kill anyone?"

By the way, this is some of the best acting I've ever seen from her. She's usually so bad.

Also, the opening keeps saying that both the kids are possessed. It seems like only David is though.

That's supposed to be Harry, her son? I always wonder why they even bother putting the characters in the show again if they aren't available. They must be their understudies.

Quentin finally shows his face! I know he did once before, but this is the first time someone other than the kids saw him.
