A new expedition to find the wreck of Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance has launched, and the BBC news bit I saw featured footage of the ship itself I thought everyone here would be interested in seeing. Here's some footage from the BFI's restoration of South: Sir Ernest Shackleton's Glorious Epic of the Antarctic (1919). This footage was shot by the ships photographer Frank Hurley.

So cool! I can't wait to watch this.
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

Fascinating! I was amazed at the remastered documentary; it really does give a sense of what it was like to have been there. Hurley did some excellent camera work there. And what arduous toil that was, and how heartbreaking it must have been for the men to watch that ship fall slowly to pieces. It’s heartbreaking to watch even now.
One of the YouTube commenters mentioned being surprised to see a ship that old looking launched in 1912. I’d thought the same thing; it looks definitely 19th century.
I really hope conditions hold out for the expedition. If so, it will be fascinating to see what they find.

My favorite part were the dogs, puppies, penguins, and roaring sea lion. Some amazing shots are to be seen here!

That's so cool! I saw this earlier today. I bet there are some interesting things on that boat.

Wonderful!! What an amazing thing to see. I can't imagine the feeling the crew on the icebreaker had when they first saw those images... I wonder if they are going to do any further exploration of the interior?
And thanks for posting the silent one—it's very special to see it that way.
