Voices of the Fans!

Post by BettyLouSpence »

I thought I'd share some letters written by fans to various movie magazines in the silent era :)

I'll start us off with this one from 1926 in Photoplay magazines "Brickbats and Bouquets" section (which is a goldmine for this sort of stuff) complaining about the lack of good portraits of male stars.

I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show
a fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
and celluloid heroes never really die...

Love this thread! There are tons in Motion Picture Story, as well.

I guess we'd be on Myrtle's black list since we're preoccupied with vamps lately. (And it's all your fault, too. We could be watching good, clean acting. :? )

Yikes! I wonder if the actors got scared when they read stuff like this. 😂

When I see letters like this that get published, I wonder what the actual handwritten ones looked like!

Do you think Lydia and Pat started a Richard Dix fanclub in their hometown? If they were in high school, I can imagine the inside of their lockers being plastered with his photos
