That is an interesting one! I'd heard of it, and thought I'd watched it before, but I guess I hadn't, because none of it looks familiar. I second your Blech on the spitting part. I actually liked the music pretty well after I got used to it.Kitty wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2017 11:01 amDream of A Rarebit Fiend (1906) is actually pretty creepy, especially the bed part. It's based on Windsor McCay's comic strip of the same name. This copy has bad music, but it's the best quality video I saw on YouTube.
Oh, and the spitting part should have ended up on the cutting room floor. Blech!

Re: Silent Shorts
It's funny---I thought I had seen it before, too, but I remembered nothing except the very beginning.
You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)
Re: Silent Shorts
For a long time I have had a special fondness for this Alice Guy-Blaché comedy short starring Fraunie Fraunholtz. Another I like almost as well is "A House Divided."

Re: Silent Shorts
Have you seen such an amazing quality print of a 121 year old film? It is only 40 seconds long, but still cool. Fishing for Gold Fish - 1895.

Amazing quality! I've never seen anything from that era so sharp and clear.Kitty wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2017 10:53 pmHave you seen such an amazing quality print of a 121 year old film? It is only 40 seconds long, but still cool. Fishing for Gold Fish - 1895.

Re: Silent Shorts
That one is so interesting. The baby really does look exactly like the drawings of the babies on the front of the children's books of that era. Makes me wonder what kinds of kids books that child got to see! It is a french clip, so it would be none of the books I have.donnie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2017 1:11 pmAmazing quality! Re: Silent Shorts
Rescued by Rover is a 1905 short by Cecil Hepworth. I'm not sure if I have ever seen anything like this before. I watched a version that had a little talking over the beginning saying that the Hepworth family played in the photoplay, and that is also the family dog. Here is the Progressive Silent Film List entry. There is a bit of interesting information on this page. http://www.silentera.com/PSFL/data/R/Re ... r1905.html The dog's name is Blair, according to this page.

Re: Silent Shorts
That is an interesting film, really well-made for 1905. I'll bet the dog was an amazing hero for audiences of that time.
Re: Silent Shorts
Have you seen it? The X Rays (1897) is a 45 second long interesting short about a couple who get, you guessed it, X-Rayed.
