Silent Shorts

Post by Kitty »

This is a great example of Lillian Gish's stage presence. I was blown away by The Mothering Heart. The fact that it's a Biograph short makes it all the more amazing for me, because many of those don't really hold up.

You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

His Ryoal Slyness
The film is outrageously interesting.
The prince, Harold Lloyd was cute and not like a prince.
I was glad to see Snub Pollard, his rival and Noah Young, his tutor.
Marie Mosquini looked beautiful and was well-acted.

Norma shared this, so I'll put it here. She said:
Scarecrow acted by Keaton and Seely

Seely looked prettier than in One Week.
The house Keaton family lived in was made conveniently.
And the scene that Keaton put a nut on Seely's finger was both lovely and amusing.

Norma also shared this. She said:
Haunted Spooks acted by Harold Speedy and his wife.
The film was too realistic, not fantastic.
But girls were pretty, Sp was cute.
The scene that Sp jumped into the low water was interesting.
He originally tried to die, but failed. Fun!

Thank you for sharing! To add a video, just click on the very last selection, the circle with the black arrow. That's the new video link. I fixed it for you.

The Suburbanite was very interesting. I did have a little trouble understanding the plot.

Here is a classic from 1917. There has been a lot of discussion of this lately on Lea's Silent-ology page.

Norma, here is one I know you like. I always enjoy watching this. I first found out about it when you posted on the other discussion board awhile back.
