Gwen Lee in the late 1920s. How come so many gloves from this era had those three lines on the back? Just a popular decoration, I guess?

Yes! I've noticed those and always wondered about them, too. They were also common on men's gloves (a lot of times white lines on black gloves—or is it the opposite?). That's a beautiful photo, by the way.
