It does look modern! I think it's the lighting and casual style of her hair.

One of my favorite shorts is Fatty and Mabel Adrift (1916), in which Fatty and Mabel's house floats out into the ocean. Someone posted a great behind-the-scenes photo on Marilyn Slater's Mabel page. Here is a screenshot I made from the film—followed by the behind-the-scenes look.

I’ve probably said this before, but I’ve always found those photos or films of the inside of a theatre of the period to be interesting. We’re watching them watching them—and it’s almost like you can experience what it was like to be there.
