I love Mairzy Doats. I think this song must have spawned a host of imitations. I've heard several from this time along the same idea. One is Sammy Kaye's The Hut Sut Song.

Love the Hut Sut Song! Here's a "soundie" of Horace Heidt's version:

Stan Kenton is one of my favorite bandleaders. He did a whole album dedicated to West Side Story, from which the most famous track is "Maria." Beautiful use of piano and mellophone section.

Stan Kenton had a great sound, indeed! I love that arrangement.

Here is the Glenn Miller Orchestra with the classic I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo—and a special treat at the end.

This one is a lot of fun!! It's just too bad that this kind of music won't come back in vogue!

That's a good one. I've heard a recording of Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians doing this. In fact, this vocalist and band sounds amazingly like Lombardo—the low-pitched vocal trio arrangement, instrumental style (especially the tuba and saxophone section); I'd have mistaken it for Lombardo if I hadn't have known better.

I second that!

Here is a favorite of mine. Bob Crosby's band had such a beautiful powerful sound, and I love his singing.

Oooh! That gave me that groovy feeling that I get when I hear great jazz! I love it. Thanks for sharing!

I ran across this Larry Clinton short years ago on TCM, and have always enjoyed it.
