Without looking it up, do you know what a counterpane is?
This happens to be one of many things I only know because I’m currently reading Moby Dick.
Is the book as stuffy as it seems on the surface? (No pun intended )

I'm actually enjoying it, although Melville does go on and on with his exposition at times and excels in the run-on sentence. There are some good turns of phrase and touches of wry humor in his comments that reward the long slog.

And (at the risk of straying way off topic) it’s taught me a lot of details about whaling that I would never otherwise have learned. Just the other day I rewatched “Down to the Sea in Ships” (1922) and kept saying stuff like “Hey, that’s the line tub! That’s the loggerhead! That’s the cutting spade!”

Ha! I love when that happens! When watching Hamilton, I understood so much more because I had just finished reading The Scarlet Coat. Hey, let's bring this convo to viewtopic.php?f=32&t=508&hilit=Book+reading
If you'd like to talk more about this. 🙂

Here's another favorite from the Kingston Trio. Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, and Dave Guard each take a verse as they discover they've all got the same girlfriend.

And here's one from Mary Hopkin, fronting the group Hobby Horse (with her friend Ondrea Lloyd and then-husband Tony Visconti) in 1972, singing the lullaby "Sweet and Low," the lyrics of which are from a Tennyson poem. (And yes, the saccharin sweetener takes its name from the same poem.)

And Mary Hopkin on her own, on British TV in 1968. She is quite handy on guitar.

Linda Perhacs is enjoying a resurgence of interest in her work lately, and released her second and third albums in 2014 and 2017 respectively. This is from her first album in 1970.

Almost forgot about these guys, the Irish folk-to-folk-rock duo Tir na nOg, a/k/a Sonny Condell and Leo O'Kelly. I love their stuff. Here's a couple tracks from their first album.
