Wow! Color me a dum-dum but I never realized that I never heard that song in full! I had no idea that was what that song was about! I'm blown away!

I didn't realize it either, for a long time, not until I saw a reference to it in that light and read the words. I think all those bicycle songs ("Daisy, Daisy...") were a response to the bicycle craze of those years, as well.

Isn't it wonderful that we can go back and discover what kinds of things were the fads of the times?

It makes me so happy to be able to hear and share 150 plus year old songs. It's a pleasant way to while away the hours.

He has an excellent bass voice. That song sounds a lot like something you would find in Gilbert and Sullivan.

Idk what's up with this video, but either he is mouthing the words to a recording, or the sync is off. Anyway, I decided to put it up here anyway so we can continue to sing along with the lyrics. I can feel my arteries harden hearing this song about one person's love for Bacon and Greens.

I like those songs, especially Jim the Carter Lad. The Bacon and Greens vid is a little strange, though a nice song. But I am also having an urge to have my cholesterol checked after just listening to it.

This reminds me of Uncle Dave Macon, one of the Grand Old Opry's early performers, whose favorite songs were "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" and "Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy." The latter may have helped him become acquainted with the former more speedily.

Perhaps, but I just looked him up and he was 81! Pretty good age for those days. He may have even heard some of these songs we are mentioning, since he was born in 1870. What a life that guy must have lived, the things he must have seen!

Yes, he was a colorful individual and lived a pretty colorful life, I think.
