80s Music

Post by Kitty »

I love Dokken's sound. I've heard this song before, but never saw the video. I know it was probably cool back then, but to me it is so funny! Have fun looking back at 1983's Breaking the Chains by Dokken.
P.S. Who else totally thought that lantern must have hit more than one of them in the face during the recording of this video?

I like that sound too. I think a lot of that was meant tongue-in-cheek, probably. But agreed the song is better than the video!

80s Music

Post by Kitty »

This is the stuff that my older sisters listened to. Duran Duran is my band of choice today! I wanted to see what they were all about. I've heard their really famous ones like Hungry Like A Wolf and Rio, but never really heard anything else. Oh, I've heard the one that's playing at this very moment, though. It's called The Reflex. I'm on their third album, which is curiously called Seven and the Ragged Tiger. I don't know what it means, but I like it! I can see what all the hubbub was, now! I like them a lot.

As much as Grace Slick loves to hate on her 80s Starship years, I actually like this song despite its cheesiness...

This one came off Blizzard of Oz. This has gotta be the coolest album cover ever.
Really my favorite anti-war song ever written.

I moved this from the '70's music thread over here where it belongs. Kept bothering me that it was misclassified. :x Besides, it's so '80's sounding. :)

Here is another from Sergio y Estíbaliz. I can't quit listening to this one. :he: This is Puede Que Te Quiera from 1983.

Having a very scant knowledge of Spanish, I can only barely make out of the gist of this song. So, wanting an English translation, I attempted to wrangle the first line of the chorus from Google. Sometimes Google Translate works, and other times...

Hey, maybe that's what they were singing! :P But...I doubt it.

I've downloaded from iTunes their album Agua. One especially beautiful song is Lluvia de Amor (Rain of Love). I've found an English translation of the whole, but...unfortunately it doesn't match up with what they're singing. That's been the case with two or three others I've looked at.

Sergio y Estíbaliz, Quiero Más De Tí
This is also on the Agua album, but was released on 45 rpm in 1983. On Discogs the style is listed as "Bolero." The verse part has an almost Bossa Nova sound, and I love the chord progression in the chorus ~0:56-1:22
