Elsie Carlisle

Post by Kitty »

I just discovered Elsie Carlisle by accident trying to find a silent film. Not sure how this came up, as this first song was the only result, and the search terms had nothing to do with it. But, it worked out anyway! This lady had a nice voice!
You've Got Me Crying Again - 1933

This second one is really interesting!! It's a 6 minute Pathetone short from 1931 with Elsie singing two songs - Alone and Afraid and My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes. The latter is one of the best songs I have ever heard; it's very funny! I like that she really seems to be telling us a true story every time she sings a song.

I really like that singer. She reminds me somewhat of Annette Hanshaw, but with a little brighter voice.

She was compared to Vera Lynn, a singer I have never heard of, in the comments of more than one of her videos.
