Favorite Old Songs

Post by Kitty »

I think it's time just to make a thread for songs we like that we aren't quite sure which thread to put in. Sometimes single songs are what we'd like to share, and don't want to create a brand new thread for it. So here!
This version of Beautiful Eyes by Irving Fields was issued in 1949, as a B-side. The A-side was St. Louis Blues.

You trying to tell me you didn't hear that shriek? That was something trying to get out of its premature grave, and I don't want to be here when it does. - Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

I don't know what year this came out, but I think it's fun song! A Nice Cup of Tea, Sam Costa. Do you agree with him?

Danny Kaye is a serious heart throb of mine. This song makes me instantly so happy. Danny Kaye and Barbara bel Geddes singing Ragtime Lullaby from Five Pennies---minus the baby crying. :)

I like that a lot! :D A very pleasant song. Yes, I agree with him on the tea—except at bedtime—that's a no go due to the caffeine. I order Davidson's Organic English Breakfast by the pound and drink it everyday. However, I drink it at room temperature, which is a little unusual, I guess. But it has more flavor that way than either hot or iced.

I like tea. My favorite is probably raspberry. I never really thought about it, but room temperature is actually nicer. You don't burn your face, either.

I'm getting into the habit of drinking a hit of matcha in the afternoons, too. It's better when whisked in the bowl with the bamboo whisk, traditional Japanese style. I still like the flavor of black tea better, though.

That's a nice one, too! Danny Kaye had a very good voice and a nice style with a song, didn’t he? And I had no idea Barbara Bel Geddes could sing that well—I only knew of her as an actress.

Kaye's smooth voice was so jazzy. I 💓 him. 😺

Martha Tilton, (Ah, Yes) There's Good Blues Tonight! I love this one! Reminds me of that Casper Cartoon called Good Boos Tonight.

That's a catchy one and a really good arrangement.

Here's another Annette Hanshaw favorite of mine—a 1929 novelty song in honor of the new talkies. :D This one has the characteristic "That's all" at the end.
