That episode I missed had both Bertha and Mama talking, and I definitely heard it! I'm convinced they're the same person.
I thought so too at first, but when I listened some more, their lines come so awfully close together that it seems even a good voice actress would have trouble shifting gears that quickly. And at 6:10, it sounds like there is a tiny overlap, just a split second where they are both speaking.

Mrs. B: ...so you can get on with the laundry.
Bertha: ..." [?] only takes a minute..."

I don't understand the first word after laundry, so I can't be sure. What do you think?

Maybe I wasn't so convinced, after all. At least in this episode, I don't think it's her. 🙂 Btw, I think she might have said "Now, now, it only takes a minute."

Episode 363, An Unexpected Visit.... That is NOT Mama's voice!!! It sounds just like Victoria Manners.

When you get to this episode, let me know what you think.

I finished Claudia yesterday. What a pleasant show! It could have gone on forever!

Here's an adorable picture of Claudia, aka Katharine Bard.

That spurred me to see what other images of her there are. Some of the youngest ones really do look like what I picture Claudia as being like.

One thing I found was an episode of the western The Big Valley from 1965 in which she appeared. Have a look at about 17:30 for a representative scene. I would never have guessed her to be the actress who played Claudia from this. What do you think? (This actually looks like a pretty good episode. I may watch the whole thing.)

Why is the episode an hour and a half long? I thought it was a movie until I realized you called it an episode.
To answer your question, I am not sure if I'd have known of it was her in this circumstance. If I hadn't known it was going to be her in the clip, maybe not. But it does look like her, comparing to the episode of the other show we watched. It sure doesn't sound like Claudia, I'll tell ya that much! I was trying to imagine Claudia speaking that way, and I just couldn't!

It's an hour long episode. This is one of those that starts a portion over again at the end as a dodge to keep from getting yanked for copyright violation.

Yes, that was my point. It seems like two completely different women. I guess the differences in age and in the role account for it.

I finally am getting around to reading the book. I had read a chapter before I was done listening to the show, but now I've read a few more. I wanted to comment that she's 18 and he's 25 in the book.

Also it might be interesting to note that the reason the birth was so strangely done in the show is because it's just how it's written in the book, like she didn't know what was going on the whole time and delirious. It was pretty nerve wracking reading, as I thought she'd lose the baby. You never know until you read what they may have changed in the show, so it was plausible. Bobby is alive and well, though, so all is good. 🙂
