Coffee Ads

Post by donnie »

Coffeeholic that I am, I have a thing for vintage coffee ads. Some of my favorites are the Maxwell House ones from the 70's with Margaret Hamilton as Cora, the New England village shopkeeper.

And here is a classy Sanka commercial. Listen to that background music—full early 60's coolness. Nope, they don't make 'em like this anymore.

(No, I dunno why Charlie's in the corner.)

Margaret Hamilton! For those who may not know, that was the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. Did you know she was a kindergarten teacher before getting into acting?

That announcer in the Sanka commercial is oddly creepy to me, and I don't know why.

:? Well, he sounds as if he is promoting drug use, which actually... no, wait, it's decaffeinated. :?

That music, from about :30 on...I can close my eyes, and I'm in a Kmart in the 1960's. :D That's the kind of shopping music they used to play.

Another Cora Maxwell House one. I wish I could place the actor playing the husband—he looks so familiar.

I don't know who he is. He only looks very slightly familiar to me.

The husband's name is Nicholas Surovy, i remember him as one of Eric Kane's many husbands on All My Children. The picture on the IMdb page doesn't do him justice, but it's him. He was on in 1983-84 and then came back in 1998. He is an extremely prolific TV actor.

We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
