I enjoyed this series of blogs. Good points about the use of the word "country" and 'The British are coming!" I have to admit, I'd never thought about that!

I ran across this beautiful Hudson River School painting today: Valley of the Yo-Semite (early spelling of Yosemite) by Albert Bierstadt (1864).
Surprisingly this painting is only about 12x19 inches. It is now in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
